The US Department of Justice has allowed the waiting period for the proposed merger between mobile companies T-Mobile and MetroPCS to pass without objections. While the Federal Communications Commission still needs to approve of the deal, the lapse of the waiting period means a large hurdle is cleared for the parties. The deal is not without concern and controversy, however, as the two companies recently filed a statement with the FCC admitting that the merger might lead to some job losses – despite the fact the companies previously insisted the deal would create jobs. In a statement, MetroPCS said it suspects the deal will gain all necessary approval and complete the acquisition soon after April 12, when stockholders will meet to vote on the merger.
