Ireland: Competition Authority releases annual report

Ireland’s Competition Authority has announced it received 33 merger notifications and 233 complaints in 2012, summarizing its year in its annual report. Thirty merger cases were determined, most prominent of which includes the authority’s blocking of a merger between Argosy and Eason – the first time the authority took action against a merger tht was not notifiable under the Competition Act. Included in its report were the agency’s highlights of the year, including its launch of a study to review the ports sector as well as the final prosecution of heating oil cartel cases.
