In an exclusive story by the Associated Press, it is reported that the US Department of Justice is probing an alleged bid-rigging scheme by the US Agency for International Development, the government agency that distributes foreign aid. The Associated Press obtained documents that also suggest that USAID’s Deputy Administrator Donald Steinberg allegedly interfered with an internal investigation concerning the same matter. The Justice Department, however, has not confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation into the Agency. According to reports, that original internal investigation concerned whether USAID’s general counsel Lisa Gomer rigged contract bidding in May 2012 to award a position of senior government-to-government assistance adviser to USAID’s retiring chief financial officer David Ostermeyer. The contract bidding was later cancelled.
