U.S.: Antitrust case in FL healthcare industry settled after seven years

A seven-year-old antitrust case against a Florida county’s largest health care provider has finally ended, according to the provider’s website. Health First has announced that the case between Health First and Space Coast Health Foundation has been settled, though did not disclose the terms of the settlement agreement. The settlement comes after a case first initiated in 2005 that resulted in a series of acquisitions between various health care facilities; Wuesthoff first sued Health First over charges of service bundling and preferential pricing to hamper Wuesthodd’s ability to compete. When Wuesthoff was sold to Health Management Associates in 2010, the proceeds of the sale – estimated between $30 million and $50 million, though still undisclosed – went to Space Coast. And while Health Management Associates did not pursue Wuesthoff’s suit it first began, Space Coast did.
