Ireland: Competition Authority to investigate airline takeover

U.K. logistics company Stobart’s plan to buy Irish airline Aer Arann has been referred to the Competition Authority, which will be taking submissions into the inquiry until December 3. In a statement made by the airline, Stobart is seeking to buy 40 percent of the company as well as gain a position to seek future investment in the airline. According to reports, the deal also involves an unknown investor allegedly connected to Stobart. The deal comes as the airline plans major restructuring of the company, including ten new carriers to be bought for about $200 million.
