South Africa: Tribunal fine for Telkom appealed

The Competition Commission is looking into increasing a $50 million fine first administered Telkom SA last August by the Competition Tribunal. The Commission had originally ought a fine of up to $385 million, but according to a spokesperson, the fine had been reduced after a decision to not pursue a case against Telkom for price discrimination and excessive price fixing. The appeal to increase the fine will now include these cases, though did not release information on the exact fine it plans to land against the company already fined for abuse of dominance. Telkom will also reportedly appeal the fine.
