Eurotunnel’s plans to buy former SeaFrance operations have been approved and cleared by the French competition authority on Friday, and the deal is expected to be officially cleared as the U.K.’s OFT has followed suit. France’s decision was made only weeks after the plan was referred to the Competition Commission by the U.K.’s Office of Fair Trading. Eurotunnel made the deal for €65 million to buy three ferries from SeaFrance. Eurotunnel has stated that France’s approval of the deal “confirms” their plans will not hamper competition in the market, as the OFT feared. The OFT released its decision to also approve of the merger on Monday.
