Netherlands: Deadline passes to appeal Court decision on fine for Dutch publisher

A deadline to appeal a decision by the District Court of Rotterdam to reduce a fine ordered by the Dutch Competition Authority to Koninklijke Wegener N.V. has expired. The fine has been reduced to €2.2 million. Wegener, however, has announced that the newspaper publishing company needs more time to decide if it will challenge the ruling. The original fines were ordered against Wegener for “breaches of undertakings” in regard to its acquisition of VNU Dagbladen in March of 2000, according to the Competition Authority. Koninklijke Wegener N.V. is the Dutch subsidiary of Mecom.
