Canada: FTC waives waiting period for space equipment company merger

In completing its review for approval of MacDonald, Dettwiler (MDA) and Associates Ltd.’s buyout of U.S.’s Space Systems/Loral Inc., the Office of Fair Trading’s Bureau of Competition Premerger Notification Office has also granted an early termination of the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act’s waiting period. The deal was set at $875 million. MDA are known for their manufacturing of robotic arms for the International Space Station, though the U.S. Department of Justice had asked for further review of the deal specific to MDA’s satellite communications antenna and payload enterprises in Montreal.
