Mexico: IFT approves fees for infrastructure sharing

Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has agreed to the costs model presented for the fees applicable for the use of Televisa’s infrastructure, calling it “a key measure for promoting the development of competition in the broadcasting market.”

    All subsidiaries and license-holders related to Televisa —which is considered the Preponderant Economic Agent— that own infrastructure, must allow access to competitors in non-discriminatory and competitive terms, allowing several companies to share the costs of running part of the essential infrastructure and avoiding needless duplication.

    IFT’s board approved several resolutions that establish the terms for interconnections not previously agreed to between several companies of the telecommunications sector, applicable from November 24 to December 31, 2017, and from January 1 to December 31, 2018.
