US: Amazon seeks eBook pricing feud resolution

Amazon issued a statement on its website Tuesday with plans to resolve an eBooks pricing dispute that has caused tension between the online retailer and major publisher Hachette, say reports.

    Amazon said pricing eBooks at $9.99 will be profitable both for it and Hachette, claiming that while the price may be lower than Hachette wishes, overall consumers will purchase more of the product.

    Reports emerged in recent months over a feud between the two businesses that was rumored to be about the pricing of eBooks. Those reports were not confirmed, but Amazon’s latest statement suggests they were valid.

    The pricing of eBooks has been the subject of competition concerns with Amazon; the reported dispute lead to allegations that Amazon was deliberately delaying delivery of Hachette products and abusing its dominance to strong-arm the publisher into agreeing to its pricing terms.
