US: Samsung tangles itself in new patent battle

 |  November 24, 2014

Samsung Electronics has reportedly launched a new patent battle, this time against US technology conglomerate Nvidia.

Reports say South Korea-based Samsung wiled a request with the International Trade Commission against Nvidia on November 21; Samsung is reportedly lookin to block the sale of its rival’s computer-graphic chips in the US on claims Nvidia infringed on several of Samsung’s patents.

The dispute first sparked last September when Nvidia filed its own complaint with the ITC against Samsung and another US chip-making giant, Qualcomm. Nvidia was seeking to block the importation of Galaxy products that use Qualcomm processors.

Now, Samsung wants to turn the tables on Nvidia. Samsung filed a lawsuit against Nvidia in early November based on patent infringement claims. Those claims have now spread to the ITC, reports say.

Nvidia described the debacle as a predictable tactic following its own ITC complaint.
