Un estudio realizado por la Comisión Nacional Bancaria y de Valores, apoyado en información de la Comisión Federal de Competencia Económica (COFECE) ha ofrecido un comparativo internacional del capital requerido para iniciar un nuevo banco en México, detectando altas barreras de entrada que colocan a México entre los lugares con costos más elevados para iniciar dicha actividad, requiriéndose hasta US$33 millones y superando lo requerido para su acreditación en Suiza, Alemania, España, Inglaterra o Brasil, además de muchos países de economías emergentes.
