Global law firm Baker McKenzie has announced Nick Altini is the new head of the Competition & Antitrust practice.
In addition Baker McKenzie also announced Morne van der Merwe was appointed as managing partner of its Johannesburg office.
Nick has a broad range of experience having acted for both local and international clients on a range of high-profile matters relating to abuse of dominance, collusion between competitors, associated penal and damages matters and opposed mergers. Nick has acted in several matters in neighbouring African jurisdictions.
He acts for clients across a number of sectors including aviation, hotel and gaming, financial services, media, technology and FMCG and has significant expertise in regulatory advice on matters relating to the Consumer Protection Act, the Protection of Personal Information Act, the Promotion of Access to Information Act and the Advertising Standards’ Authority Code of Advertising Conduct.
“Nick’s appointment will enable us to further grow our existing competition law offering for clients looking for expansion opportunities across South Africa and indeed the rest of the continent,” said Samantha Mobley, Chair of the Firm’s Global Antitrust and Competition Practice Group.
