US: Staples, Office Depot partnership in talks again

    As Staples recently agreed to be acquired by private equity firm Sycamore Partners for US$6.9 billion, the office supply retailer has also been said to be holding talks to spin off its 1,500 retail stores to Office Depot, sources told the New York Post.

    The Federal Trade Commission blocked previously pursued Staples-Office Depot deals in 1997 and 2015 on antitrust concerns, as the merger would establish the United States’ only office-supply chain.
