Spain: New Regulatory Chief appointed

The appointment of a new Regulatory Chief was announced by the Spain Council Ministers this week. Juan Espinosa Garcia is the new Director General of Spain’s gaming authority. Garcia previously served as the Assistant Director General since 2013. He worked as Carlos Hernandez Rivera’s predecessor before claiming his new role with the Council Ministers.

    Garcia has a lot of previous experience in the industry with serving as a Deputy Director of Relations for the Public Administration Competition Commission for 5 years. He holds a bachelor of law and civil administration degree as well as obtained his masters in European and International Politics, and a Masters in Economics for Competition Law.

    Rivera stepped down for unexplained reasons last year. It was a shock to the industry with him leaving that he made a public announcement explaining his sudden departure and apologizing for his unexpected leave. Rivera led his role for more than four years with overseeing the Spanish market with online slots and cross betting sectors.

    Garcia is also a frequent speaker and publisher in international and national events that are related and pertaining to regulatory issues, gambling and competition aspects of the industry.
