India: Authorities set timeline for spectrum auction

    The DOT said the bidding should be concluded by February 28, 2015. A committee established to facilitate the bidding process has also reportedly recommended that bidding begin on February 3.

    India is planning to place three types of spectrum up for sale that are currently held by Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Reliance Communications. The airwaves are up for grabs as the companies’ licenses are set to expire, according to reports.

    The DOT is reportedly still working on rules for the auction.

    Reports say the Telecom Regulator Authority of India is expecting significant funds from the auction due to the limited availability of the spectrum up for sale.
