South Africa: Commission clears mineral mining tie-up

South Africa’s Competition Commission has offered clearance for a merger between MDM Engineering and Foster Wheeler.

    According to reports, MDM, which focuses its mineral mining operations throughout Africa, will merge with Foster Wheeler for about $109 million. The deal was first announced last March.

    While the Commission’s clearance pushes the deal forward, reports say the merger will still need to meet several other conditions agreed upon by the two companies.
