Telco giants across the UK are reportedly launching accusations at UK-based BT for holding a fiber broadband “monopoly.
According to reports, Vodafone, Virgin Media, TalkTalk and Sky are all calling on communications regulator Ofcom to intervene in the matter as the companies look to gain control of part of BT’s network.
Reports say the operators are looking to control BT’s existing fiber optics or building their own broadband lines in BT ducts. BT has come under fire for being allowed to control its high-capacity lines; the company rents its infrastructure out to wholesale customers like Sky and TalkTalk, say reports.
Some critics say that business arrangement gives BT a monopoly on the fiber broadband.
According to reports, Vodafone has submitted a filing to Ofcom in support of the introduction of an arrangement that gives partial control of BT’s network to those competitors.
