US: Dairy class action ends with $50M settlement

The Dairy Farmers of America has reportedly settled a class action lawsuit against the cooperative filed in 2009 for anticompetitive allegations.

    The DFA offered $50 million to the plaintiffs to end litigation, which accused the DFA’s marketing arm and Dean Foods of colluding with each other to monopolize the raw milk industry in the Northeast of the country. The collusion was said to have lowered prices paid to dairy farmers.

    The DFA said in a statement earlier this week that it has not admitted to any wrongdoing under terms of the settlement agreement.
