US: Jimmy Dean strikes $4.3B deal with fellow food giant

    Hillshire is set to merge with Pinnacle Foods, a deal that would add brands including Birds Eye frozen foods, Duncan Hines and Vlasic pickles to the Hillshire portfolio.

    According to the parties, the new company will operate almost exclusively in the US. The deal remains subject to regulatory approval but reports note that the combined entity will be much smaller than rival Kraft Foods, the owner of Oscar Mayer.
