India: World’s largest airline alliance wants boosted presence from India

As Air India is set to join the world’s largest airline alliance in July, reports say the alliance, known as Star Alliance, is looking for yet another member from India to join its ranks.

    According to reports, Star Alliance could be looking to bring on India’s Tata-SIA as a new member, though Star CEO Mark F. Schwab denied the group was in any such discussions. Schwab did say, however, that “yes, we want another member airline from India.”

    Air India is set for initiation this July, but competing carrier Tata is set to launch a joint venture with Singapore Airlines – a leading Star member – setting Tata up as a logical addition for the alliance, reports say.
