France: Nespresso knock-offs gain a free pass from Nestle

Nestle rivals that manufacture knock-off capsules meant for the Nespresso instant coffee brewing machines could be given a free pass as Nestle says it will lift some obstacles to companies that make the competing products.

    Reports say Nestle has told the French Competition Authority that it will notify competitors three months in advance of technical changes it will make to its coffee machines to allow competing capsules to remain in use. Further, reports say, Nestle won’t discourage consumers from using the copycat products.

    The offers were made in efforts to end an investigation into the matter. Reports say rivals have applauded the proposals.
