US: Patton Boggs woes grow with lawyer departures

As rumors heat up that law firm Patton Boggs will merge with Squire Sanders, reports say Patton Boggs antitrust lawyer Benjamin Chew is only the latest employee to defect from the firm.

    Chew served as Patton Boggs’s head of its commercial litigation and antitrust group. He will reportedly join Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman, unnamed sources said.

    Financial strains have lead to layoffs and employee departures at Patton Boggs as sources confirmed the firm is looking to merge with Squire Sanders to stay afloat. While no firm merger is official, reports say a letter of intent has been drawn up and sources believe a merger deal would arise before the end of next month.
