US: With ACA concerns, FTC to examine healthcare

The Federal Trade Commission is set to host a two-day workshop that examines the state of competition in the nation’s healthcare industry, say reports, as concerns and debate rise over the effects of the Affordable Care Act on the market.

    The FTC announced plans to “study certain activities and trends that may affect competition in the evolving healthcare industry.” The event follows a questionnaire released by the FTC to earn feedback for the topic.

    Specifically, reports say the event will probe regulation of the market, price transparency and other concerns.

    While the FTC did not mention the ACA, reports say critics are concerned that the new healthcare legislation interferes with antitrust law. Whether that topic will be covered by the workshop was not immediately clear.

    The event is scheduled for March 20th and 21st.
