India: Hyundai cleared of dominance abuse

The Competition Commission of India gave car giant Hyundai a pass this week as authorities dismissed charges against the company’s India unit for abuse of dominance.

    The CCI inquired about allegations by rival Nanavati Wheels, one of Hyundai’s non-exclusive dealers. Nanavati accused Hyundai of restraining trade and preventing the dealership from making agreements with other car makers.

    But the CCI dismissed the charges on the count that Hyundai did not include a clause in its agreement that officially restricted any such action. The CCI also found that Hyundai was not dominant in the geographical market in question.
