UK: CC explores Red Bee, Ericsson media merger

The UK’s Competition Commission has elaborated on the specifics of its investigation of a media merger, announcing that a final ruling on the deal should be delivered by March 16 of next year.

    The Commission opened a probe into the buyout of Red Bee Media by Ericsson and recently announced plans to focus on how the media merger will affect competition depending on consumer requirements, including quality of service standards.

    Further, the regulator said it would evaluate how the market for broadcast television would evolve should the merger be blocked and whether the deal could lead to hiked prices.
