US: Senate approves antitrust whistleblower protections

Following a Senate committee approval, the full Senate has reportedly passed a bipartisan bill aiming to provide legal protections to whistleblowers of price-fixing.

    Co-authored by Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT), the bill will reportedly protect those who report price-fixing behavior to the US Department of Justice; earlier reports found those who reported the wrongdoing were often retaliated against, either by firings or other forms of punishment.

    The bill was first introduced last January and will allow employees that believe they are the subject to such retaliation to file complaints with the Secretary of Labor.

    The Judiciary Committee cleared the legislation last week.
