US/UK: Verizon, Vodafone discuss record-breaking buyout

Verizon Communications is reportedly in talks with UK wireless carrier Vodafone to possible acquire the rest of its Verizon Wireless stake for a record-setting $130 billion.

    If successful, the deal would be the third-largest merger of all time.

    It’s an expected move for Verizon, which has publically discussed its desire to fully acquire the additional 45 percent of its wireless arm from its UK peer.

    One source said the $130 billion price tag was discussed in talks a few weeks ago; that same source says an announcement regarding the deal could be made as early as next week.
