Australia: Quarterly report announces six-fold increase in ACCC fines

In its June 2013 quarterly report, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission reviewed recent happenings for the watchdog, reporting a collection of more than $200,000 in fines and more than 50,000 complaints launched. The fines issued included a dozen for infringement notices and amounted to six times the value of the last quarter reports. The number of complaints issued were also up by 6 percent compared to the last quarter. In a statement, ACCC head Rod Sims says the report reflects the nation’s increasing familiarity with competition law.
