France’s wireless telco giant Orange spoke out against competitors in South Africa, slamming foreign rivals including Vodacom and Telkom Mobile for what Orange head Sebastien Crozier called anticompetitive behavior. Crozier, who leads Orange subsidiary Orange Horizons, is in the midst of entering the South African market by launching a full-service mobile virtual network operator in the nation. Specifically, say reports, Crozier denounced the South African companies’ practice of charging consumers less for calls between two phones in the same network as opposed to a different network, a practice banned throughout Europe. The Orange chief said the behavior constitutes “unfair competition.” The executive further slammed the nation’s varying taxes on mobile phone plans, say reports.
