South Africa: Pay-TV giant faces complaints, possible investigation

South Africa’s antitrust regulators may soon initiate an investigation of pay-TV operator giant MultiChoice after receiving complaints of anticompetitive practices from its rival, say reports. Competitor On Digital Media has made the accusations against the company, which currently owns DStv and SuperSport. According to one report, the Competition Commission has been asked to refer the case to the Competition Tribunal and impose a fine on MultiChoice and its SuperSport. While no action has been taken yet, the Commission has confirmed that it is still reviewing the complaint.
