Global: US clears Random House/Penguin Merger, global authorities still reviewing

The US Department of Justice has reportedly cleared a proposed merger of publishers Random House and Penguin without conditions, while various other competition authorities in Europe and Canada, among others. The merger, which will result in an entity called Penguin Random House, includes Penguin Group’s operations in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa, and China; it also includes Random House’s publishers in Spain and Latin America, according to reports. The parties expect the merger to close in the second half of the year.
