ABB-Thomas & Betts’ electrical products merger cleared

The European Commission has approved ABB’s proposed acquisition of Thomas & Betts, an American manufacturer of electrical components and connectors. ABB is one of the largest engineering companies in the world, and is active in the power and automation technology sector.

    The Commission investigated the transaction’s effects in the markets for low, medium and high voltage electrical products. It ultimately decided that the parties’ overlaps in the supply of hardwired surger protective devices and lightning protection systems was limited. Moreover, strong competitors in the relevant EEA and local markets continue to exist post-merger.
