Antitrust Community Mourns The Loss Of Former FTC Commissioner Thomas Leary

Thomas Leary, former member of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) under the Bill Clinton administration, passed away on May 21st.

A Princeton (Economics) and Harvard (Law) graduate, and following a brief period of military service in the Pacific, Leary’s legal career spanned more than 50 years, with Antitrust as his primary field. During his distinguished career he was a partner in prestigious law firms White & Case and Hogan Lovells, and also served as assistant general counsel for General Motors.

Leary’s ability to work with policy on both sides of the political aisle was widely recognized during his term at the FTC. He published over 30 articles and received three major awards for lifetime contributions to the development of antitrust law.

Thomas Barrett Leary died at home, surrounded by his family, including his beloved wife Stephanie, at the age of 89.
