The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has been urged to investigate Shell Coles Express, a partnership between gas giant Shell Australia and convenience chain Coles Myer, regarding its hike in fuel prices after they reached record prices. Reports say fuel prices spiked by 15 cents per liter at a time corresponding with the company’s shopper docket promotion; according to a representative of gas price monitoring company FUELtrac, Geoff Trotter, there had never before been such a high margin between profits made from fuel sales and the low price of oil barrels. The ACCC is in the midst of an investigation into various shopper docket schemes, say reports. The news comes as Shell is part of a widespread investigation into oil markets within Europe and the US.
