Brazil: Outgoing head of bank-giant concerned over merger obstacles

The outgoing chief executive of Brazil’s largest foreign lender has suggested that antitrust issues may hamper big banks’ ability to merge. The chief executive of Banco Santander SA, which has recently been rumored to be a part of merger talks with competitor Banco Bradesco SA, made the remarks on Thursday. The rumors of any merger plans, which speculated that Banco Bradesco would takeover Banco Santander Brasil, have been denied by both banks.
