Colombia: Communications regulator faces Construction complaints

Colombia’s Construction Chamber (Camacol), a confederation representing the country’s construction companies, has put forward a series of complaints against the Technical Rules for Internal Communications Networks (RITEL), which was issued by Colombia’s Communications regulator, (CRC). Camacol claims the reforms, which came into effect last week, will push up the cost of housing and negatively affect the construction industry.

    RITEL establishes certain rules for construction and telecommunications companies when designing the internal communications networks and infrastructure in a horizontal property. The CRC has stated that these measures in no way discriminate against these industries’ economic positions.

    The rules, in effect since July 15th, give consumers the right to access broadcast television and to freely choose the internet, TV and telephone service providers of their choosing, forbidding companies from limiting their choices to a single consumer.
