Florida AG Demands ACC Transparency Amidst Antitrust Investigation

 |  January 4, 2024
Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has intensified the legal battle between Florida State University (FSU) and the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) by demanding transparency in the ongoing disputes, while simultaneously pursuing an antitrust investigation.
Moody’s public-records request seeks ACC contracts, including grant-of-rights agreements and contracts with ESPN, as the ACC’s refusal could potentially lead to FSU forfeiting over half a billion dollars.
Moody’s request stipulates that the ACC must provide the requested documents within 10 days. The move comes amid a broader legal battle between FSU and the ACC, raising questions about the nature of the agreements that have led to such significant financial implications for the university.
The move aligns with Moody’s broader antitrust investigation into the College Football Playoff, where FSU’s exclusion from the final four remains a focal point. Moody’s actions highlight the urgent need for clarity in collegiate sports agreements and the potential consequences for universities.
