Former DOJ Antitrust Media Entertainment Head Joins Kirkland

Kirkland brought aboard Scott Scheele, a former section chief in the Justice Dept. antitrust division, as a partner based in the firm’s Washington office, reported Bloomberg.

Scheele served as Justice’s chief of the media, entertainment and communications section between 2012 and 2021. He supervised about 20 trial lawyers and all merger and civil conduct investigations.

Scheele in the role also implemented competition policy in the areas of wireless and wireline telecommunications, media and entertainment.

In joining the antitrust and competition practice, Scheele adds his experience to a firm that has more than 3,000 attorneys and advises on all aspects of competition law.

“Scott’s extensive experience in the Department of Justice will greatly benefit our clients,” said Jim Mutchnick, Kirkland antitrust and competition partner.

Kirkland recently represented Jeld-Wen Inc., whose investors won approval in November of a $40 million class action settlement of claims that the door manufacturer kept them in the dark about antitrust violations.
