The South Korean Fair Trade Commission announced Monday it will be closely monitoring the effects of the planned shipping alliance between three of the largest ocean shipping companies to ensure smaller rivals can compete.
The so-called P3 alliance between Maersk, CMA CGM and MSC has already earned approval for the venture from the US Federal Maritime Commission. But the companies still need approval from the EU, China and South Korea.
According to reports, one South Korean official told local reporters that “we have sent a letter to the Chinese antitrust authority seeking joint action on the matter.”
The EU and China are slated to announce their rulings on the alliance in a matter of weeks, reports say.
