Spain: Asphalt cartel jeopardized more than 900 projects

Spain’s competition authority the CNC has announced nearly $21 million in fines issued to an asphalt cartel. According to a press release, formal proceedings against eleven companies involved began in June of 2011. The CNC found that the companies conspired to divide the asphalt market in Cantabria in an anti-competitive agreement. Additionally, the CNC found companies to have fixed prices and made agreements to share out public and private contracts. The authority found the collusion to have run between 1998 and 2011 and that it affected more than 900 projects.
