Top EU Commission Advisor on Energy Joins Baker McKenzie

Global law firm Baker McKenzie continues to grow its European Energy team with the appointment of prominent energy expert Dr. Klaus Dieter-Borchardt. He joined the Firm’s Brussels office as Senior Energy Consultant on October 1, 2020, as part of its Antitrust & Competition team.

    Klaus-Dieter was Deputy Director-General for Energy following a career spanning more than 30 years at the European Commission. Before this role, he served in the Legal Service where he dealt inter alia with competition law, and then as Deputy and Head of Cabinet of Commissioner Mariann Fischer Boel (Agriculture and Rural Development). Mr Borchardt also worked as a Member of the Cabinet of the German Judge at the European Court of Justice in Luxemburg.

    Klaus-Dieter’s appointment comes two years after Baker McKenzie appointed leading energy and competition law expert, Christopher Jones to Principal in its Brussels Office. Christopher also acted as Deputy Director for Energy at the European Commission, and is an expert on competition policy having spent 11 years in the European Commission’s DG Competition.
