US: Comcast fights local price caps

Comcast is fighting the Federal Communications Commission’s imposed price caps on the cable’s company service Xfinity in several towns for Comcast’s monopoly in the areas, say reports.

    Comcast filed a request with the FCC for the caps to be lifted in five towns in which is hold exclusive rights to provide cable. In a statement, Comcast said it is “seeking relief from unnecessary regulations.”

    But the towns have fought back, arguing there is not enough competition and that the caps should remain.

    Federal regulation calls for rules for companies that control 85 percent or more of a franchise area.
