Global law firm White & Case continues to strengthen its Global Antitrust Practice with the appointment of University of Florida Professor of Law D. Daniel Sokol as a Senior Advisor. Sokol will be based in the Firm’s Miami and Washington, DC, offices.
“A hallmark of our Global Antitrust Practice is handling at least one trial per year, and Professor Sokol is the right academic to give our clients a big picture view on key aspects of antitrust law,” said J. Mark Gidley, Global Head of White & Case’s Antitrust Practice. “We have one of the few practices that focuses on the development of antitrust law, in trial and appeals courts in the United States and globally.”
Gidley continued, “Furthermore, we are one of the few law firms with global coverage to help clients deal with bet-the-company investigations, lawsuits and mergers. Professor Sokol’s experience as a global player and his strong relationships with international enforcement agencies will bolster our integrated global approach.”
Sokol is highly regarded in the high tech sector for his deep understanding of the policy considerations shaping the intersection of intellectual property and antitrust law, two areas of focus for White & Case. He is co-editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Antitrust, Intellectual Property, and High Tech and editor of Patent Assertion Entities and Competition Policy. His global expertise in this sector makes him a valued advisor for the Firm’s clients and lawyers.
Sokol currently also serves as the academic advisor to the US Chamber of Commerce’s Antitrust Council and serves as a non-governmental advisor to the International Competition Network, a network of antitrust enforcement agencies around the globe. He also regularly makes presentations to representatives of Competition Authorities from around the world.
