Hogan Lovells announced that former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Chief Trial Counsel Charles “Chuck” Loughlin has joined the firm’s Washington DC office as a partner in its Antitrust, Competition, and Economic Regulation (ACER) group within the Global Regulatory Practice.
“I’m excited to be heading back to private practice,” said Loughlin. “Hogan Lovells has a highly regarded antitrust team in the U.S. and around the world, and the opportunity to take on a new role in a global practice was very enticing.”
Loughlin served as Chief Trial Counsel at the Federal Trade Commission since August 2016, and previously served as Deputy Chief Trial Counsel. Throughout his career, Loughlin has worked on some of the most significant recent matters to have come before the FTC. In his time at the FTC, he led the Impax Labs trial, co-led the Staples/Office Depot trial, and supervised both the Tronox/Cristal trial and the 1-800 Contacts trial.
“Our antitrust practice has enjoyed significant success including our recent work to clear IBM’s acquisition of Red Hat. We have been actively looking to add a trial lawyer with Chuck’s stature and experience to meet the needs of our clients,” said Edith Ramirez, co-head of the firm’s ACER group. “His private practice success and trial experience for the FTC is a hard combination to find. He will make an outstanding addition to our practice.”
