US: SCOTUS denies antitrust case

The US Supreme Court has reportedly denied an appeal by power management company Eaton Corp Plc of a lower court’s jury verdict against the company, accused by a rival of hampering competition by making exclusive agreements with truck transmission manufacturers. Eaton was accused by Z.F. Meritor of colluding with the manufacturers in the sale of heavy-truck transmissions in deals that allowed the manufacturers to earn money rebates if enough of Eaton’s products were purchased. Additionally, the rival accused Eaton of requiring that those manufacturers more favorably price the transmissions than those of Meritor’s. In a statement, Eaton acknowledged the rarity for the Supreme Court to hear appeals, though highlighted the company’s disappointment in the decision.
