US: Senate Panel Approves DOJ Antitrust Pick Delrahim

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday voted overwhelmingly in favor of the nomination of Makan Delrahim, President Donald Trump’s pick to be the assistant attorney general in charge of the US Department of Justice’s Antitrust Division.

    During the Republican Party presidential primaries, 2016, Delrahim published an op-ed in the New York Post publicly endorsing Donald Trump, writing, “I’m practical, and I’m willing to take my chances with The Donald.”

    After Trump’s victory in the 2016 US presidential election, Delrahim was active in Trump’s presidential transition. After the inauguration of Donald Trump, Delrahim became Deputy White House Counsel and assisted in shepherding United States Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch through the United States Senate confirmation process.

    In March 2017, Trump announced his nomination of Delrahim as Assistant Attorney General for the United States Department of Justice Antitrust Division.This role, which requires US Senate confirmation, entails overseeing corporate mergers and acquisitions.
