White House Sets Deadline For Removing TikTok From Federal Devices

The United States has set a deadline for TikTok to be removed from all federal devices, citing concerns about the app’s data collection practices, reported Reuters. The new deadline set by the White House will give TikTok until April 12 to reach an agreement with the US government on data security issues. If no agreement is reached, TikTok will be banned from all federal devices.

    TikTok, which is owned by Chinese company ByteDance, has been under scrutiny from the US government for months. In November, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) ordered ByteDance to divest TikTok’s US assets within 90 days.

    During the Trump administration banning the app outright, was also suggested. In February, the US Army banned TikTok from all government-issued devices, citing “security concerns”.
