Ryan Quillian joined Covington on Monday as a partner in the firm’s antitrust practice in Washington.
Quillian was at the FTC for eight years, starting out in 2014 as a staff attorney in the Mergers IV Division, then becoming acting deputy assistant director of the division in 2018. By the end of that year, he was already counsel to the director of the Bureau of Competition and remained in that post until January 2020, when he became deputy assistant director of tech enforcement.
Before the FTC, Quillian was an associate at Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe for four years, after starting his legal career as an intern at the US Department of Justice.
At the FTC, Quillian gained particular experience with technology, pharmaceutical and life sciences, retail services, consumer goods and health care antitrust investigations. At Covington, Quillian will use that experience to advise clients on antitrust issues, including conduct and merger investigations, litigation, counseling, and compliance training.
Anne Lee, co-chair of Covington’s antitrust practice, said Quillian joined at a time when “anticipating and navigating antitrust issues is presenting new challenges.”
